SATTVA HATHA YOGA

Balanced and Mindful Yoga

Classes are taught in the Hatha Yoga style using Vinyasa (sequencing) for posture work.

Classes are medium paced, and incorporate a full breath led practice which is slow to medium paced, dependent on the demands of the group / client, followed by a meditation / relaxation.

The primary objective is for the Yoga practice to centre, ground and bring balance to both mind and body.

All classes focus on practicing mindfully and to assist in forming an intimate connection with “self”.

Classes are suitable for all abilities, modifications can be given for all asanas (postures).

What is Yoga?

The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word yuj which can be translated into English as “to unite, to join or to connect”.  The unity comes when the mind and body work as one.

What is Hatha?

The word Hatha is composed of “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha) and conveys a feeling of a balance of complimentary influences.

What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha Yoga is philosophically rooted in the tantric movement.  It uses the body as a tool for inner exploration.  Hatha Yoga aims to purify the body and therefore the mind.

What is Sattva?

According to Indian philosophy, everything is a combination of three essential qualities called the gunas:

SATTVA:        A PURE BALANCED STATE

Rajas:           Activity and restlessness

Tamas:         Inertia, laziness and melancholy
